Reflections for 2017

This is my last article or blog for 2016.  It is only a few days until Christmas and we’re very close to ringing in a new year.  I have always loved Christmas, regardless of what is happening in my life.  To me it represents hope and magic and a time for me to reflect on my life and where it’s going.  I also make it a priority to carve out some time to plan the next year ahead.  This year has not been any different.

The longer I am on this beautiful planet, the more I realize how important and critical it is for me to have time to reflect and realign myself with own personal values and where I want to focus my time and energy.  It is so easy to get caught up with everyday life and what is happening in this world that it is easy to lose sight of who we really are.  We are here to create our lives, not to spend each day reacting to outside circumstances.  I believe it is important for all of us to come back to centre on a regular basis; to realign with what is most important in our lives.

I realize I have a bit of ritual as I enter into a new year.  Not that I ever really formally created a ritual, it just seems to be that how it is evolved for me.  I spend some time reflecting on the past year and where I’m at.  Christmas is a wonderful time to reflect on what has happened.  Who am I really wanting to see over the holidays?  How am I feeling about my life in general?  It’s not about being judgmental with myself, it’s more of a check-in.

I have found that it is just not possible to have every area of my life working flawlessly.  There’s always room for improvement, and that’s perfectly acceptable.  Now is a great time to do a temperature check and see where I would like to focus my energy moving forward.  I ask myself all sorts of questions.  As human beings, I don’t believe we ask questions enough, instead we make statements.  We might say “I don’t know what I want to do with my life.”.  Instead, I would pose a question such as “what area of my life do I need to focus on to bring me the most joy and fulfillment?”.  Remain curious and be open to what you might hear.  Sometimes the answer I think that will come at me, is in fact, not the one that does.  I continue on with my questions, and eventually a plan starts to come together.

For example, if I realize that my health and fitness needs some my attention I will ask “what type of exercise will make me feel the best and work within my schedule?”.  I just keep asking questions and more questions and the layers of the onion continue to come off.  I can’t emphasize this enough…..keep asking yourself questions.

Once a plan starts to form, I typically start to get quite excited about the new year where new possibilities abound.  I encourage you to spend some time reflecting and planning your new year.  Invest the time in yourself and in your life.  I absolutely believe in magic, but magic also takes action on your part.  You are worthy of having a most delicious life, so take the time to plan and create it!

According to numerology, 2016 was a year of endings, and therefore, 2017 is a year of new beginnings.  I know 2016 has been hard for many people and difficult for our planet as a collective.  Let's take the lessons, but leave what is no longer serving us.  I like the idea of 2017 being a year of new beginnings.  I am fully embracing the notion that we are all able to create whatever life circumstances we choose to create in 2017.  Let's begin to create a world full of peace and joy.  A world full of peace and joy begins with everyone of us creating that in our own little space in this world.
